Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized the need to reform the education system, stating that the Macaulay education system , implemented during British rule, pushed people towards slavery. He believes India must break free from this mindset within the next decade. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has praised Modi's focus on solving people's problems, strengthening the economy, and preserving cultural values, while also aiming to make India a global model.

Speaking at a lecture program, Prime Minister Modi explained that the education system designed by Thomas Babington Macaulay in 1835, during the tenure of British Governor-General Lord William Bentinck, was introduced in India. This system sidelined India's rich traditional education in favor of Western learning. Priority was given to learning foreign literature and science in English, rather than in Indian languages, thereby severing the country's roots. The education was designed to make Indians think like the British, leading to a mindset of slavery.
"Macaulay did not just impart education to the country's people. Instead, he broke the self-confidence of Indians. Even after independence, this situation continued, resulting in the weakening of our people's self-esteem. Mahatma Gandhi's Swadeshi ideology was forgotten under the influence of Western education." - Narendra Modi, Prime Minister.

Shashi Tharoor, who has distanced himself from the Congress party, once again lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated that Prime Minister Modi focuses more on solving people's problems and thinks about strengthening the country's economy. He also gives priority to protecting the country's culture, traditions, and values. Tharoor added that Modi envisions eradicating the colonial mindset and developing India not just as an emerging market, but as a country that is a model for the world.

Shashi Tharoor, who participated in the lecture program, praised the Prime Minister by posting on the social media platform 'X', referencing the points made by Modi during the program.
